The Appalachian Independence Center offers regional opportunities for people with disabilities to get together for fellowship, to share their experiences, discuss issues, and learn about community services Bristol Disability Advocacy Group: Community members who are disability advocates in the Bristol area meet the last Thursday of each month from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the 2nd floor conference room at the Bristol office to share experiences and address issues important to them. Galax Advocacy and Support Group: Community members who are disability advocates meet the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Galax Public Library to share experiences and address issues important to them. Consumer Groups: Disability advocates from Wytheville, Wythe and Bland Counties meet the second Tuesday of each month from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the HOPE Center conference room to share their experiences, discuss issues and learn about community services from scheduled speakers. Mid-Appalachian Area Activities and Support Group (MAASG): Community members of Washington County with disabilities and their family members meet the second Tuesday of each month to enjoy fellowship, share their experiences and learn about issues of importance to them.
